URGENT PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE DANGER: OPEN WATER BODIES — KEEP CHILDREN AWAY
Published on 15 October 2026
The Dawid Kruiper Municipality urgently warns all residents that the following areas present a serious risk of drowning and contamination:
Oxidation ponds
Open stormwater canals and streams
Uncovered quarries and excavations
Drowning can occur in as little as 4 cm of water. It happens silently and within minutes.
Please note that fencing at the oxidation ponds has been vandalised. The Municipality is taking steps to address this and to install a pipeline that will prevent effluent from standing in the stream. Until these measures are in place, the area remains hazardous.
Parents and guardians are asked to:
Keep children away from all open water bodies at all times
Explain the danger clearly to children
