Published on 13 August 2026

As part of the DKM annual pump replacement programme, DKM has initiated the raw water
pump replacement project at the Abraham Holbors September Water Treatment Plant. This
plant has an 83 Megaliter/day capacity and provides water to more than 23000 households
including commercial farms in the Kalahari. The pumps and pipework final design is underway
with the manufacturing to start within the next two months. This flagship project entails
replacing x2 large pumps inclusive of 200kW motors, pipework and the installation of a
variable speed drive. The project cost is currently at R6.7-million with an estimated completion
date of May 2027. The DKM has repaired and maintained the existing raw water pumps to
secure water for the coming summer period.
This project supports DKM’s commitment to water availability and security.
